Week 1
Week One - (Sept. 9 - Sept. 15) :
This week marks the beginning of the collaboration between the mill and scad. We had the wonderful opportunity to meet our mentors from the mill who will be guiding us through this process.
Concept
My group (the Sopranos) has decided to make an advertisement for the gelato brand talenti. We want to embody the luxury feel of the brand and we want the shots to reflect that. Another thing which we wanted to highlight is the craving that people get for things like gelato.
Story
Sometimes I find myself in a daze, daydreaming about something to snack on. Caramel, cookies, gelato. How about all of them in one container. I hear something being created in the fridge, and its exactly what I hoped for. A smooth creamy gelato, with layers of cookies, and dulce de leche.
FX
For this project, I’m one of two FX artists, the other being the very talented Min Song. For my side of things, I will be creating a gelato and caramel swirl around the head of our actor, as well as another shot leading the actor to the fridge and then lastly a shot of a talenti container getting filled up with all of its delicious layers. So far I have developed the technique Ill be using for my head swirl, which is in broad terms, going to be using particle fluid simulations, I also plan on testing out using vellum, but we’ll see. The basic workflow is to create an emitter behind the head of a stand in, and affecting the particles using a curve force, from there, I use a pop drag node, and a pop force node to create some visual interest, and then a pop fluid node to give it shape. From there I export my DOP network and mesh it using a particle fluid surface node. Its currently in a very rough state, but its a start.

Inspiration
I was very inspired by the current talenti ads that are already out there, but I think that I really want to call upon the luxury feeling of magnum Ice cream. I want to have a very soft feeling to all of my liquids.
